Pick of the week

I am honoured that my new release Abigail Cottage has been named Pick of the week by thriller writer Lorrie Struiff

Check it out!!

Abigail Cottage

When Abigail falls in love with Justin she can’t begin to know the world of hurt she is heading into. Gorgeous, kind, rich – he’s the man we all dream to meet. BUT, all is not what it seems because Justin is a true demon from hell, disguised as a mortal being. He wants her and will do, kill or maim anyone who tries to stop him. Namely Shaun the real hero, who wants Abigail more! So what does a mortal man do against a demon? He enlists the help of a gypsy of course. But not any old gypsy. Rosa knows Justin very well and has the powers of the spirit world on her side to fight him. Using crystals as a powerful weapon, the light of the spirit world to lead them, they embark on a battle with the whole of the underworld. Many loved ones will lose their lives. This isn’t a book where everyone survives. In real life, bad things happen. In Abigail Cottage, terrible tragedies occur too. Believe... not every story can have a happy ending.

Dare to face your fears?

Let me tell you about my next release, due out in December 2010. I wrote Abigail cottage over 20 years ago, when typewriters were the norm and telex machines sent messages through the ether. Ladies, remember the white out tape?? The endless reams of A4 paper that you had to snail mail to publishers? Wow, how time has moved on. I for one, bow down in thanks to the great internet developers, who have brought to my lounge some wonderful friends without faces. I’ve become closer to my internet friends than I am to my actual physical ones. Is it because we need to make more of an effort as we only have writing as a communication? Face to face we can hug, pat, make tea, be generally kind and helpful. Across the ether we have to rely on words more than actions. I’m very thankful for friends without faces.

Anyway, I digress. People who know me, also know I have a great problem writing love scenes. I am the proverbial close the door and leave it to the imagination writer...sigh...BUT, when I wrote Abigail Cottage I added love making scenes. Not steaming, make you sweat, hot under the collar ones, but enough to drive my point home. (Excuse the pun.) I give great homage to the erotica writers out there. Give me your power!! Lol

So what is a DARK paranormal? It is all your fears of the unknown rolled into one novel of extraordinary length. It started off as 3000 pages. Don’t ask me to calculate the word count. Over the years it was hacked, rewritten and then hacked again. It’s now down to just over 300 pages. I try to install a message in all my books. It’s the spiritualist within me. She forces me to not waste a single opportunity lol. The message in this one is, do you really know the person you love?

How many of us hear the words, I never thought he/she would do that or it was so out of character for him/her to stab, chop, punch or generally terrorise the public. When Abigail falls in love with Justin she can’t begin to know the world of hurt she is heading into. Gorgeous, kind, rich – he’s the man we all dream to meet. BUT, all is not what it seems, because Justin is a true demon from hell, disguised as a mortal being. He wants her and will do anything, kill or maim anyone who tries to stop him.

In life, bad things happen. In Abigail Cottage, terrible tragedies happen too. Look out for Abigail Cottage in December and believe that not every story has a happy ending.

There is now a cover poll here.
When you get a moment and vote for which cover you think should go with my new, dark paranormal release, Abigail cottage.
Thanks.

I am now interviewing a real life demon. Am I scared? You bet your life I am.

M. Good morning Justin. Thank you for coming today, I know your busy getting ready to kill every mortal being.

J. Not every being Margaret. A selected few.

M. So tell me, why is Abigail so important to you?

J. She is everything I desire. For over a hundred years I have tried to recreate a vessel for my wife to come back to, using her descendants.

M. How do you do that?

J. By using a spell from the lowlanders. It drives out the spirit of an unborn child, changes its image to that of my wife and makes a vessel for her spirit to enter.

M. But what happens when your wife doesn’t return and use the vessel?

J. A dark soul takes the child and the mother dies.

M. Don’t you feel any remorse that you have killed so many innocents?

J. No. Why should I? They are just vessels.

M. Why isn’t Abigail a vessel?

J. Ah, she is different. She is pure, despite the brat she carries. I no longer have the patience to wait for my wife. Once Abigail’s child is born, eternity awaits us in purgatory.

M. Where will her child go?

J. He will die of course. He’s of no use to me. I’m finished with questions. Abigail needs me. Her time has come. The brat arrives and I must prepare for battle.

M. Do you think you can win?

J. Darkness always has a place in this world. It lies within every mortal. Of course I will win.

So I leave Justin to wreak havoc in the world and leave you with one question. What would you do faced if you were faced with purgatory?

Good Morning David. It’s so nice to see you back and chat about your new release. Firstly, David is giving away some fabulous 12 x18 posters of his book cover. They will look really cool on a child’s wall. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hi Margaret. Thank you so much for having me back. A bit about me, huh? Well, I'm a true Minnesotan. Other than being born in St. Paul, I've lived my entire life in Minneapolis. My favorite season is autumn and my least favorite is summer. I think feet are the ugliest part of the human body (exterior), but a person's hands can be quite lovely. I can watch movies where people get decapitated, torn apart, and mulched, without raising an eyebrow, but I'm totally grossed out by people who use too much toothpaste on their toothbrush. Too much information?

OMG, too much toothpaste!!! Lol Now that’s funny. Reading Catherine Cookson years ago inspired me to write. I loved her books so much. Who do you think inspires you?

I like to think that it's not so much who, rather what inspires me to write. The answer to that is pretty much everything. Overhearing snippets of conversation, things I might see while driving or walking might inspire a story. That being said, my wife is a big inspiration. Not only for all the love and support, but the threat of if I don't write everyday she'll make me go out and get a real job.
A writer’s life never stops, so tell me, what’s next on your writing agenda?
Wow. I wish I knew. When I'm not bouncing off walls, I'm bouncing from book to book to short story to book. I'm presently working on the third Louise Miller novel, I'm also in the middle of a horror novel, and just last week I had an idea for another horror novel that wouldn't let me alone until I started writing it. I've also got a number of unfinished short stories. ADHD can be a blessing and a curse.

LOL I’d get terribly confused. I once tried writing two books in tandem and the characters somehow migrated into each other’s stories lol. Now I’d like you to pick your favourite character from your new release, Silent Kill and tell us about them.

I would have to go with Elias. Not only was he fun to write, but he was also the easiest. He's big, he's a bully, he's sadistic with a little masochism thrown in. Despite being truly evil (and he does know and accept that fact) he truly loves his dog, far more than any human being. There's one line in "Silent Kill' that I think pretty much sums up Elais ~ If people would just do what I say, they wouldn't get hurt.

Oh well, he might be evil but his priorities seem good. He likes animal’s lol. Tell me about Silent Kill. What is is about?

My pleasure.
Police must follow a labyrinth, leading into the darkest tunnel of a twisted mind. A mind that carries no value for human life-
Minneapolis police officer Louise Miller has attitude. Not only does she have to deal with the good old boy mentality of the department, but she's also a gay police officer who has to deal with harassment on a higher level. When one of her few friends on the force goes missing Miller investigates, despite her captain's order to leave it to the detectives.
As Miller scours the precinct for any sign of the missing officer, Elias Boughton is on a psychopathic rampage. Kidnapping and murder are games he plays, blindly obeying a voice from his past.
As the body count rises, Miller is convinced the detectives are heading in the wrong direction. Trying to fit the puzzle together, each clue revolves around a particular Rottweiler.

Louise Miller is an intricate character of the book and she has kindly agreed to do a short interview with me today.

Hello Louise, thank you for taking the time to visit with us today. Tell me, do you like your job with the police force?

Pleased to meet you, Margaret. Great hair, by the way.

Thank you, Louise. I like you already!

I do love my job, it's the people I work with that I can't stand. Actually, most of them are pretty okay folks, but there are a handful that makes it very trying at times.

Your brother, Andrew, is a deputy sheriff. Do you get a long? I’ve heard you argue a lot?

Considering he's a doofus we get along great. (Just kidding, Andrew) You know when you have those moral dilemmas where your good conscience is arguing with your bad? Andrew is always the voice of the good conscience, so you really want to just slap him around some. Yeah, we argue a bit, but just brother/sister kind of arguing. Seriously, whenever I'm in a jam, I can't think of a better person to be at my side.

Your partner Karla Spires is new to the team. How are you getting along together?

We're getting along great (knocking on wood). I don't want to say anything more and jinx it.

Do you find it tough being a gay woman in a male orientated profession?

As I mentioned in an earlier question it's just a handful of jerk-offs (pardon my language, but that's what they are) that make it so difficult. I definitely have to prove myself above and beyond the men, but then so do the straight women on the force. It is what it is ~ not worth complaining about.

Thanks Louise. I let you get back to your work now. David, where can your followers find you?

I've got followers? (Images of Monty Python's "Life of Brian" are popping into my head) If I said where they could find me I'd have to find a new hiding place. But for anyone curious as to what I'm up to, they can go to my site and find all the latest that the Stars and Enquirers are afraid to print.

I loved Monty Python. I think it’s an acquired taste though lol. Which brings me to my next question. If you could be anyone you like, who would you be?

As the song goes, I gotta be me. That's not to say I wouldn't like to experience the money of Steve Forbes or Bill Gates, or the-world-handed-to-me-on-a-silver-platter like Paris Hilton, or the genius of Stephen Hawking, but I've spent a lifetime developing who I am, and I kinda like me.

Well, I rather like you too, as I’m sure, your readers will/do too. Recently I wrote an article on dreams and how some are spiritual and some just random brain waves. Can you share one of yours with us?

Okay, but this one has a moral attached.
A while back, I woke up at about 2:45am after dreaming an incredibly exciting and life-like dream. As I lay in bed, I thought what a great short story, or who knows, maybe even a novel this would make. I concentrated on the details so I wouldn’t forget. Why didn’t I get up and write them down? Hey, it was 2:45 in the morning – I was tired. Actually, I should have known better – I did know better and chose to ignore it. I used to write down my dreams and don’t know why I broke out of the habit. Pure laziness on my part. Hell, I should’ve gotten up and headed straight for the computer. I was pretty wide-awake by then anyway. Instead, I just lay there. Finally, after memorizing all the details I went back to sleep and woke up around 6:30. I’d had a couple of dreams in the meantime about my old job that only Freud (and maybe my ex-boss) might find interesting, but no big whoop for me. The first thing that I thought of was trying to remember that first dream. I remembered the basics – it was a reality TV show where groups of people were offered plots of land. (Maybe I dismissed the job dreams too readily.) Somehow the intricacies that had made it so exciting and memorable faded with the new bout of sleep. Oh yeah, two groups had started to fight and there was a murder? A little more interesting but I still had a hard time trying to put it all together. At 2:50 I had known who and why. I knew what they looked like and their personalities. As for when I got up – nothing.
By the time I finished brushing my teeth (minimal amount of toothpaste) and taking a shower, it had faded to an incredibly lame idea. I wish I had written it down at 2:45. Who knows? The next Edgar winner might’ve just flitted through my brain (as semiconscious as it was, and maybe still is).
In the meantime I spent an unproductive day working on my present novel. Flashes of the dream turned into a distraction as I either tried to bury it or resurrect it. Neither one worked. After berating myself I got a pen and pad of paper, along with a small reading light, and placed it next to the alarm clock. When I went to bed I was ready. Instead, wouldn't you know, insomnia decided to make its return.

David, it’s been a pleasure. Good luck with your new book. Please leave David a comment and you will be entered into a draw to win a surprise ‘Thank you’ pressie from me.

Good Morning Brandi

Good Morning Brandi. The sun is shining for a change, so I have set up a table for us in the garden with good English tea and biscuits. Chocolate of course lol Today Brandi is giving away a signed copy of her latest release to a random person who leaves a comment.

Here is a bit about Brandi.
B.K. Walker is working as a Pediatric Home Care Nurse and has had a love for reading and writing since she was a child. She currently has two novels published. Death Upon Me, which is a dramatic romance and Dares And Dreams, a paranormal romance. She is currently working on a few projects and is hoping for their release in Fall of 2010 to early Spring of 2011. B.K. also runs several blogs, where she hosts author interviews and organizes virtual book tours for other authors, helping them to promote and market their work. She lives in Pennsylvania with her three children, a Pit-bull named Rancid, a Himalayan cat named Mikey, a Dacshund named Sadie and a goldfish named Albert.

To kick start the interview off, tell us how do you know you’re a writer, Brandi?

I think we all have a little bit of a writer in us. As children we pretend to go places we have never been, or be people we are not, or assume magical powers that could never be. As we grow older we may go to places we have never been, act like people we are not and still wish we had those magical powers that could never be. When we put those fantasy thoughts onto paper is when our writing becomes alive. If you can imagine the unimaginable, then you are a writer. Writing isn't just what you know, (though that helps greatly), but what you believe in. It's taking people to places where they can escape the reality of real life, creating a world that lets them know they are not the only ones that wish upon a star. Have you ever had a dream that was so vivid, so beyond reality that you just wish it were true? Maybe that dream was a character screaming to get out, a scene dying to be written or your true self longing to break free. Writing is when we can all step outside of reality and create a world all our own. We can make anything happen in our writings and the best thing is that we can share it with others. So many people read just to escape the monotony of everyday life. To wish upon that star and know that there may be a place like that of our dreams, our fantasies. We as writers provide a therapeutic outlet for a lot of people.
So how do you know you're a writer? When you are always imagining the unimaginable, when you are always plotting scenes of a story, or a different ending to a situation you may have experienced or constantly dreaming. Listen to your dreams. Let the characters speak to you and use you as their voice. Let your story be heard. Write it down. After all -you are a writer.

I am a romance writer because I am a true romantic. Being a medium, I use my paranormal knowledge in a lot of my writing too, but my books are always romance based. Why did you choose romance?

I chose the genre of romance because I'm a big believer that chivalry is not dead. I love to create a world where a man still puts his woman first, the drama of men fighting over a woman, the belief that there is love at first sight and I just love a happy ending. Plus Kacey and Lannie both would not let me rest until they got their stories out there :). So I guess I didn't really choose romance, they chose it for me lol. Although my books are completely different from each other, both deal with the things that people can relate to. Things that people can believe in and wish for. Whether it includes magic or not, it all comes down to one thing –Romance!

Life inspires me to write. I can get inspiration from just looking up into the sky. Who inspires you?

My writing is inspired a lot from my dreams. I think my muse enjoys taunting me in my dreams. It’s relentless until I wake up and actually write it down. In all actuality though, I think inspiration can come from everywhere and anywhere. A conversation you have with a friend, a scene at the mall, a drive through the mountains or watching your kids at their best. Like you said Margaret, inspiration is all around us each and every day.

Ah, someone who thinks like me! So what are you doing now?

I’ve just started a new novel, (tisk tisk) my muse was being relentless lol. I was woken up at 4 am and the muse would not let me rest until I finally got up at 7:30 and wrote it down. This book has actually had me put the rest aside for now, it’s flowing nicely. I am also working on another paranormal and the sequel to Death Upon Me.

How exciting. Two novels on the go. Can you give us a little excerpt of your latest release?

I was barely paying attention when a car full of people I didn’t
know pulled into the driveway, but when I heard the car doors
slam, I looked. I stared, squinting my eyes trying to figure out
who they were. That was the first time I ever saw him. He was
about five foot six with light brown hair. So light, it almost looked
blonde in the sun. His hair was shoulder length and feathered
back on the sides. His eyes were as dark as chocolate, and he
had the most magnificent build. He was slender, but oh I loved
those muscles. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of him. “Jenny,
who is that?”
“Kacey, just stay away from him. He doesn’t have a very
good rap.”
“Well who is he?” I just had to know.
“His name is Bryan Mathews. He is twenty four.”
“Cool. He is pretty cute.” He was more than cute. Bryan Mathews was drop dead gorgeous.
“Kacey, please? I know it’s your party and your birthday, but
could you try to stay out of trouble, just this once?”
I just smiled at her and went to get another beer. I was
standing there with my cup under the keg tap filling my cup with
beer, swaying to the beat of the music when I noticed a pair of feet
standing next to me. I had been watching my cup didn’t overflow
and caught the feet in my peripheral vision, one foot tapping to the
beat of the music.
“Happy birthday Kacey.”
I looked up and straight into dark chocolate brown eyes. I
couldn’t speak, so I just smiled. I couldn’t believe he knew my
name. The most gorgeous guy at the whole party, heck in the
whole town, and he knew my name. I could feel the heat rising in
my cheeks. After I was done pouring my beer, I handed Bryan the
tap and walked casually back over to Jenny. I wanted to run though,
so I had to concentrate on keeping my pace slow and steady.
“Jenny, he knew my name! I can’t believe it!”
Jenny just smiled at me shaking her head.
“I can’t believe he knew my name. He’s so gorgeous.” I was
trying not to scream in my excitement. I thought I was going to
explode. The hottest man I have ever seen knew my name. Me!
Plain old Kacey. The more I thought about it the more excited I got.
The more excited I got the faster I drank my beer. I was really
starting to feel it. This had to be the best birthday ever. I gave
Jenny a kiss on the cheek, “Thank you for the party.”
She put her hand to her cheek, smiled and said, “You’re
welcome Kacey.” She was just a little taken back by my gesture, as
I rarely show affection, especially in public. I think this made her
day, as much as she has made mine.
As I stood there listening to Jenny talk to Jacob, a kid from
school, I could feel myself sway at times from the effects of the
alcohol. Every now and again I would try to casually look for Bryan,
pretending to just be looking around. I would let my eyes search
the crowd, trying to make it seem like I wasn’t looking for him at all.
When I found him, even though I
knew exactly where he was at, he was already looking back at me.
At first I quickly looked away, pretending I didn’t notice he was
looking at me, but when I looked back he was still staring at me.
Was I drunk? Was he really looking at me? I could feel the heat
flush my cheeks, my heart sped up so fast I thought it might jump
out of my chest. Then I noticed he started walking towards me as a
slow song filled the air. I froze. I couldn’t look away from those
chocolate brown eyes. I felt mesmerized.
“Would you like to dance Kacey?”
I stood there like an idiot, just staring into his beautiful brown
eyes.
“Kacey?” He said my name again, this time holding out a
hand.
“Um...okay.” I recovered from sheer stupidity, and stepped
back into reality. He grabbed my hand and led me to where
everyone else was dancing. He spun me around once then pulled
me into his chest. My body felt like jell-o, and I could feel my hands
start to tremble.
Bryan chuckled quietly and brought my arms up around his
shoulders and neck. He must know what he does to women. I was
speechless. We danced slowly as we stared into each others eyes.
I didn’t notice if anyone was looking at us or not, I was so caught up
in him, in the moment.
His body was nothing but pure muscle, hard and strong. I could trace the outline of each muscle with my fingers, as I slowly
ran them up and down his back. I was a horrible dancer, and I
even stepped on his toes a couple of times. I think with his strength
though, he could lead even the worst of dancers, including myself.
I apologized each time I stepped on his toes, each time he
chuckled telling me it was fine. How embarrassing. The song was
coming to an end, and he brought his hand up and caressed my
cheek. I could feel myself blush as I tried to smile. I still couldn’t
believe this was happening to me. His thumb moved gently across
my lips. I closed my eyes never wanting this moment to end. My
lips parted at his touch, and before I was ready the song ended and
he lowered his hand from my face. I opened my eyes. That’s
when I could feel something on the inside of my
lips. Bryan leaned into my ear and whispered, “A little something
for the birthday girl. Thanks for the dance.”

Although I have reviewed your book I loved this excerpt you chose to show us. Pick your favorite character from they book and tell us about them.

Kacey Rogers is probably my favorite. She is a lot like me in attitude, but she is also strong and inspirational. She has overcome a lot in her life and that is to be greatly respected.
So would you say you based Kacey’s whole character around you and your life?
I would have to say yes. When I first started writing this book, it wasn’t meant to be a book. It was me writing down everything that bothered me in my life. I was sitting in Nursing Lecture when Kacey decided she wanted a life of her own and the story just unraveled.

Before you go, where can your followers find you?

Welcome to George Sherman Hudson

Good Morning George and welcome to sunny, England. It’s lovely to have you on here today. Can you tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is George Sherman Hudson I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. The youngest of two kids I was introduced to the fast life at an early age which resulted in him being sent to prison for over a decade of my life. While in prison I penned my first novel which is now my company G Street Chronicles best seller. I am happily engaged to my fiancee and company COO Erica Jones. I currently resides in Atlanta with my fiancee, two kids and step daughter.

It's so nice you have overcome such great obstacles in your life. What drew you to write in your current genre?

My life situations is what drew me to write urban books. I felt that if I'm going to write about real life experiences it should be about things that I've experienced first hand.

How many novels have you written to date and are they all in the same genre?

I have written 4 novels to date and yes they are all of the same genre. Only thing that seperate them is one is more urban drama the other is street lit.

How much time do you spent on plotting etc before you start writing?

I really don't spend a lot of time on plotting. I come up with a good story and just start writing. I let the plot develope itself.

Looking back, What is the worst thing you have ever written?

I say Time to Kill it was a novel that was so bad that I didn't even give it a chance!

Tell us about your latest release.

My latest release is the first book of my three part series called THE REAL SERIES. The first book and my latest release is titled The Realest Sh** I Ever Wrote. The book is about a brother that's living the fast life and ends up paying an ultimate price.

Synopsis:
The drama just doesn't stop in the lives of Deb, Tammy, and Lisa. Deb, the hard worker and savvy entrepreneur is blessed with a multimillion dollar contract, but has to enjoy the success without the comfort of her man whose fledging music career has him busy from state to state. Tammy has everything a diva could want, a multimillion dollar home, expensive cars, clothes, jewelry, and she thought love.

Drama is a book a lot like sex in the city with black characters, each chapter is told from the point of view of a different character. They take turns telling their side of the story. It has everything, humor, emotions, great characters, and a lot of drama.

How can your readers keep up with your news?
Readers can always see what's new with me at my place

Before you go, what actress gets your pulses racing?

Laura London. She is very talented and beautiful.
