Pick of the week

I am honoured that my new release Abigail Cottage has been named Pick of the week by thriller writer Lorrie Struiff

Check it out!!

Abigail Cottage

When Abigail falls in love with Justin she can’t begin to know the world of hurt she is heading into. Gorgeous, kind, rich – he’s the man we all dream to meet. BUT, all is not what it seems because Justin is a true demon from hell, disguised as a mortal being. He wants her and will do, kill or maim anyone who tries to stop him. Namely Shaun the real hero, who wants Abigail more! So what does a mortal man do against a demon? He enlists the help of a gypsy of course. But not any old gypsy. Rosa knows Justin very well and has the powers of the spirit world on her side to fight him. Using crystals as a powerful weapon, the light of the spirit world to lead them, they embark on a battle with the whole of the underworld. Many loved ones will lose their lives. This isn’t a book where everyone survives. In real life, bad things happen. In Abigail Cottage, terrible tragedies occur too. Believe... not every story can have a happy ending.

Welcome to M.C.V Egan

Good morning and today be are doing a HUUUUGGGE giveaway and book blitz. M.C.V. Egan is the pen name chosen by Maria Catalina Egan the author of The Bridge of Deaths. Catalina was born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1959, one of eight children.

Today she asks is paranormal the new ‘normal’? I am giving away a beautiful bag of crystals to the person who leaves the best comment and Catalina is prepared to snail mail one book to a UK follower of my blog who makes a request through the contact form and mentions my name. You can’t ask for more!!!!

So tell us, what are your views on the paranormal? Do you believe that crystals have the power to unlock illness within the body and set it free? E.C.V Egan does.

Her book The Bridge of Deaths is a love story and a mystery. Fictional characters travel through the world of past life regressions and information acquired from psychics as well as archives and historical sources to solve "One of those mysteries that never get solved" is based on true events and real people. The journey will take you to the possibility of finding yourself in this lifetime, by exploring past lives.

Paranormal according to the Random House Dictionary of the English Language (Second Edition out in 1987) is ‘of or pertaining to the claimed occurrence of an event or perception without scientific explanation, as psychokenisis, extrasensory perception, or other purportedly supernatural phenomena.’
The word is given roots from around 1915-1920. Of course wonderful reported ghost appearances, seers, astrologers and any number of psychic phenomena have been around for far longer than that. The word is also linked to other negative connotations such as Occult and I won’t bother to make you laugh with the long list I found in my Thesaurus.
Words that today are not threatening were in past generations loaded with fear provoking Taboos. I was personally raised this way, the forbidden fruit that was not to be touched and that would provoke terrible consequences. I was cautioned by the common urban fantasy of the young woman who was told by a psychic she would die at a certain age and when this did not come to pass she went mad and spent the rest of her living days in an insane asylum.

Fortunately I was a rebellious, curios soul also fortunately in 1987 we had the massive Harmonic Convergence and the world shifted monumentally in the way it interpreted what had been “unacceptable”.
The ‘New Age’ movement gave us so many books that became mainstream and acceptable pretty much everywhere. I know I speak to you from the perspective of America and that Europe is far more open to explore. This being said I had my foot on each continent at the time and my observation is that perception in such matters also influenced European minds.
I had dabbled a little here and there trying to decide whether to stay on course in the religion I had been raised or to espouse this amazing energy I could feel almost touch and see all around me. I did not have to put much effort into learning as the saying goes ‘when the student is ready the teacher will appear’ manifested in my life as such a powerful, visible and strong force that I could not chose any other path.

I do not exaggerate when I say that books fell off shelves and right by my feet or literally hit my arm s if magically screaming “READ ME” I befriended people that on the surface seemed so every day and turned out to be masterfully learned in matters such as crystals, different healing or divination modalities. I will not pretend to have been so brave, open and just plunged in…no I wasn’t. One of these great teachers who guided me often described me as someone who clung to the past kicking and screaming afraid to meet her fate.

That was a quarter of a century ago, today I dance around my fate smiling holding on the beautiful crystal ...today it is Lapis lazuli…I have a writing deadline I need to work with my 5th Chakra - my communication center. Tomorrow I will probably hold an Amethyst and look at fate full in the face ask for Enlightenment and open my heart and shout out to the Universe “I am ready.” In 2012 dare we say ‘paranormal’ is the new ‘normal’?

  1. Is Paranormal the new normal? Good question.
I think it is to a certain extent it is, a lot of people certainly approach it with a more open minded way than they did in the past. I've always found the Paranormal quite normal, strange as it may sound and love how books on the Paranormal have become so much more widely available since I began actively traveling my path 20 some years ago.

Crystals are something that have always interested me but my knowledge on them is light compared to my knowledge on other paranormal subjects. I definitely believe there is power within them to do many things, including acts of healing.
    Blessed be.

  2. Hello Gareth,
Thamks for your feedback. I have had amazing experiences wuth a wide variety of crystals and my very Catholic relatives have become open-minded to the idea that there is an energy to be used within them.

  3. Is Paranormal the new normal? Not sure. I think the paranormal has always circled our existance here on this planet. As we mature (and become more receptive to ideas) we realize the contact we have through our past connections.
Many times, I have been working and looking for something and not found it. I continue onto another project and it is only then I find (plainly visable) what I had been looking for. Usually, the new project started is connected to someone from my past.
As I grow older, I oftenb wonder, "will I be able to connect with my family after I have moved on?". Makes for good debate (even if my wife does not enjoy discussing it (smile).
I guess my one word mantra would be" BELIEVE.

  5. I didn't know that Bridges of Death deals with themes of reincarnation. I've always wanted to write a novel exploring them, but now I don't have to, because McV beat me to it ;-)

I think you're right. Paranormal is really en vogue now. People are looking for something different yet familiar. Fantasy and sci-fi might be too inventive for some to relate, but paranormal is comfortable while being engaging. Win-win, yes?

  6. Thanks for droping by Emlyn. I am sure you could come up with a fascinating re-incarnation novel The past life regressions from TBOD are almost entirely documented from real regressions.Like that paranormal vs. sci-fi...

Silly me a I started a new comment and did not follow your thread with a reply... Yes TBOD is full of DOCUMENTED past lives, psychics and a Peruvian Shaman...these are not part of the fictional aspect!

  7. Paranormal the new normal? Great post and great comments. Both yes and no. We are getting used to the paranormal, almost accepting. Shows like Ancient Aliens, Paranormal Activity, Ancient Mysteries of the Bible, etc. all have paranormal themes. Science is no longer the answer. Crystals are fascinating. I really liked the Indiana Jones movie with the crystal skull. Didn't know there are really skulls like that found. Okay, I'm rambling. Again, great topic. Got my mind racing without the coffee. 8. I believe paranormal has become the new normal, yes, as people become more open and receptive to what were previously perceived as frightening, heretical notions. If we consider that things once considered impossible or unimaginable are now common place - telephones and airplanes and men who go to the moon - why not believe in things our senses didn't reveal to us before? I think mankind is more sensitive to it and ready to believe.

Great blog! I'd love to read your book! Best wishes!

  9. Is the paranormal normal? I really don't know how to answer that except from my personal perspective. It's fun reading paranormal books.

I've heard of paranormal incidents from close friends. And all the comments above are good. I've never had any experiences so I guess you would call me a doubting Thomas.

Sure the technology today would be like magic or alien to the people of yore. And perhaps there is energy in crystals.

I do write some paranormal stories. But to me, once again, they are only fun to write and fun to read.

    Great post.

    1. I really enjoyed your perspective. I found it very open-minded. Personally I would not call you a doubting Thomas.

I would assume that you are very sure in your core beliefs to the point that dissimilar beliefs are not a threat. Bravo Lorrie.

    1. I can attest to the subject who allowed me to use his regressions albeit he remains anonymous. Had a very possitive impact by "releasing" something he did not need.
I personally have also had very possitive consequences to past-life regressions.
I do believe strongly it is not for everyone, and we must each follow our individual path.
      Thanks for dropping by.

  14. I look forward to reading your book. As far as the question about paranormal being the new norm? Well I believe that there are a lot of things out there that we do not understand and I don't think we are meant to understand them. To each their own. I believe there is a higher power out there and who knows it just may be paranormal! :)

    1. There are so many things we do not understand. When I wrote this post I thought I was working more along the lines of the general perception and acceptance of paranormal. Of course by sharing my personal experiences I ended up starting a very different conversation.
Thanks Gale and Thank-you for dropping by.

  16. Hello Catalina,
I Paranormal the new normal? I can see how many would think so with all the books out on all the lores and legends from Were's to Vamps.
I think people in general are more open minded now than they use to be. But as a whole no.
I am Native American and I was raised around the mystical and paranormal. Being related to healers and Medicine people I've saw things that would raise the hair on most people's neck. I was told just because you can't see something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Take for example Vampires and Werewolves. I was told all my life that my people could change to Wolves. We are one of two Nations of Indians that have the lore or legend pass down to us by our elders. Do I believe? Yes! I do because of an experience I had as a child. Do I believe in Vampires? Just because I haven't seen or met one doesn't mean they don't exist. This would explain why we have so many people disappear and never to be found again. If I was a Vampire what better place to exist.
As far a crystal's and stones, this I do know are real and they do have power. I've seen this work, however not all people use them right and using them the wrong way can actually make the person sicker who there trying to heal.
Being Haudenasaune in my language it translate as (People Of the Longhouse) I'm very blessed to have many society's two being the False Face Society and the Medicine Society. The false faces are actual entitie's that we feed. These are mask no two are the same. These mask are created by the person who they visit too show there face to be created. Any how. I know I'm babbling. And I apoligize. The Paranormal is real and I believe that more and more people are starting to accept this.

Thank you and have a great week.

    1. Teresa...ramble on! How absolutely fascinating. In regards to your comments above I use a Sanish saying in TBOD "No creo en brujas pero de que vuelan, vuelan" that loosely translates to 'I don't believe in sorcery, but it works' (the Spanish with the witches and flying does not work as well in English).
This goes with your statements of just because I have not seen it it does not mean it isn't there.
I have had some amazing experiences with Native Americans and the Peruvian Shaman Hernan "Braveheart" Quinhones, who was an incredible help in the past life regressions and channeled information for TBOD.
What an amazing lineage and culture you have the honor to bear.
Thank you so much for your input and please always feel free to ramble on.
      Thanks Again for dropping by.

  17. Over the past couple of decades, like you mentioned since the 80s, we've seen a major opening of consciousness across the world. It's not uncommon now to see a fair number of people identifying as witches and pagans even in the most conservative areas. I think this will continue as the paranormal becomes even more normal over the next few years.

    1. Thanks for dropping by and the input Andy. I have been surprised by the reaction of people I considered most conservative to the paranormal angles in TBOD...so it has been my experience that there is more acceptance.
